Every so often, after a hard day or during a stressful time, sometimes we just need someone to give us a little support and remind us that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Letters To a Girl Boss is a series of letters written from awesome women, running their own businesses, to fellow entrepreneurs to provide them with a little bit of inspiration and motivation for the day.
If you’d like to join in and submit a letter of your own in order to inspire a fellow girl boss, you can find more about it here and you can submit your letter to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Today’s letter was kindly written for us by one of my lovely business besties Maru, of Fashionyfab and it’s all about learning to be a little bit kinder to yourself. So, if you’ve been having a hard time of it recently and need a little bit of inspiration – read on!
Dear Girl Boss,
I need to tell you something and you are going to probably think it’s a cliché, but please keep reading. Are you ready? What I need to tell you is this: BE KIND TO YOURSELF. If I can sum up my 27 years as a woman, daughter, friend, business owner, is that you truly need to cut yourself some slack and be kind to yourself.
Our society has set big standards, well let’s be honest here, impossible standards about how we should look like, how much we should earn, who we should be to be successful and fit in. Well, in this letter I want you to know that you are enough and you are doing the best you can. After all, that’s all anyone can ask of you, that you give it your all.
Please, stop comparing yourself to others. I’m not saying this only in the personal aspect of your life, but in every way you can think of. You are enough. You are talented, beautiful and have what it takes to reach all your goals. You just need to tune out the outer noise and follow your own path.
Don’t be scared if this means that some people won’t like it, because the ones who matter are the ones who will stay by your side and support you all the way. Don’t be scared to walk away from the standard or what is “normal” (what does normal mean anyway) and make up your own rules. Because guess what? It’s your life and you have full control over it and how you want to live it.
Don’t be too hard on yourself if you fail. Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again. Sure, it may sound easier said than done, but even if it hurts, learn from your mistakes and keep going. Because trust me, making mistakes is inevitable, but learning from them is optional.
Love yourself as you are, trust your talent, trust who you are and always, always be kind.
